Petition Launched Calling for Action

As part of our Doors to Dignity campaign we’ve launched a parliamentary petition calling on the Government to increase and target investment in social and affordable housing for older people.

By 2048, 40% of retirees will be renters, many reliant on NZ Super as their sole or main income. But NZ Super was not designed for renters: many older renters currently spend over half their Super on rent. Older people have a right to affordable, accessible, healthy housing.

Ministry of Housing and Urban Development figures show that NZ is not building enough houses to meet this demand. We believe urgent investment by Government in older persons’ housing is needed to address this growing crisis.
